D-Day celebrations in Suffolk 

D-Day 6th June 2024

Barrow-cum-Denham, West Suffolk

We shall be organising a community event with food (fish and chips and hog roast) music, other stalls  and children's activities culminating in the beacon lighting at 9.15 pm.

Barnham, West Suffolk

Dunwich, East Suffolk

Dunwich will be lighting the Beacon on the clifftop with the public invited to watch carrying Lamp Lights of peace on the beach below.

Earl Stonham, Babergh/Mid Suffolk

We are planning on lighting our Beacon to celebrate the anniversary itself and a village fun day on the following Saturday.

Friston, East Suffolk

Community fun afternoon. Community picnic and live music. There will be a service of remembrance, bells ringing out in peace and a beacon lightening. Thanks to East Suffolk Council and Sarah Whitelock particularly who have been kind enough to donate funds towards the event from the communities enablement fund.

Kelsale-cum-Carlton, East Suffolk

Commemoration Event with Swing Band, prizes for period dress, Inflatable Games, inc Sweeper and Assault Course, Adams Bar, Cheryl's Fish n Chips, Ice Creams etc, Fun Dog Show, Sweet Stall, Flower Festival at Church judged by Cnty Cllr Richard Smith with prizes from Heavenly Hair & The Store. Tug of War and Classic Cars.

The event is to be held on the 8th June from 14:00 to 18:00 on the Recreation Ground, Bridge Street, Kelsale-cum-Carlton.

Leiston-cum-Sizewell, East Suffolk

Beacon Lighting on the Beach with Leiston Royal British Legion Band in attendance.

Lowestoft, East Suffolk

The event will be free to access 1940's themed event culminating with the lighting of the most easterly beacon in UK. 

Metfield, Babergh/Mid Suffolk

Bring and share event before lighting of the Beacon.

North Cove, East Suffolk

We have bought a peace lamp to light at 9.15 on the evening of June 6th and hope to involve the granddaughter of someone involved in the landings as well as a connection of a spitfire pilot who flew over the landings recording the event. Sir Bruno Peek has organised the peace lamps. 'from the darkness of war comes the light of peace'.

Shottisham, East Suffolk

We will be lighting our Beacon at 9:15 pm on the 6th June and will be providing parishioners with a toast of Prosecco to celebrate the event.

Tuddenham St Mary, West Suffolk

The Village Hall Trustees have taken this on and we are holding a Afternoon Tea of the era with music along with a Field of poppies.
