Public Rights of Way - Webinar Recording
Understanding rights and responsibilities

On Tuesday 23rd September, the Brecks Fen Edge and Rivers Landscape Partnership Scheme (BFER), in collaboration with SALC, hosted a webinar focused on Public Rights of Way in Suffolk.

Claire Dickson: Rights of Way Operations Manager for Growth Highways and Infrastructure from Suffolk County Council and Beverley McClean National Landscape Planning Officer from Suffolk & Essex Coast & Heaths National Landscape Team delivered a fascinating talk on Public Rights of Way in Suffolk - responsibilities and the recent changes to Section 85 of the Countryside and Rights of Way Act 2000 (as amended).

In this special webinar for parish councils, Claire and Beverley provided an introduction to the Suffolk County Council’s Public Rights of Way service; an insight into public access covering the history and complexities of legislation, current access rights, the responsibilities of the County Council and Landowners and opportunities for promotion of access.

The session included an insight into public access covering:

  • history and complexities of legislation

  • current access rights

  • the responsibilities of the County Council and Landowners

  • opportunities for promotion of access.

  • the recent changes to Section 85 of the Countryside and Rights of Way Act 2000 (as amended). These changes have strengthened the duty on all Relevant Authorities in relation to Protected Landscapes, including AONBs.
