Suffolk's Most Active Community

Suffolk's Most Active Community is back for 2017 and Suffolk County Council and Suffolk Association of Local Councils are once again looking for entries.

Organisers are keen to hear about communities going the extra mile to get people active.

If a community does any form of physical activity, then they can fill in an entry form to explain the type of activities taking place and the number of people involved in no more than 500 words.

All entry forms will be carefully considered so that a decision can be made on who to shortlist which will be decided when the final judgement takes place. Those who are shortlisted will receive a 'Most Active Community 2017 Finalist' certificate for their community to show that they were shortlisted for the award.

The awards are split into three categories – most active town, most active large village (population of more than 1000) and most active small village (population of less than 1000). Shortlisted communities from each category will be invited to the SALC AGM on the 7th November 2017 where the winners and runners up will be announced. The winner from each category will receive an engraved brass plaque as permanent recognition of the community's achievement.

Shona Bendix, Chief Executive for Suffolk Association of Local Councils (SALC), said "Suffolk's Most Active Community Award gives communities a chance to demonstrate what they do to assist people to leading a healthier, more active lifestyle. This allows us, and the rest of Suffolk, to celebrate their efforts and the important contribution they make to Suffolk's ambition of becoming the most active county in England".

Cllr Tony Goldson, Suffolk County Council's Cabinet Member for Health, said "we know local communities, large and small, do a brilliant job in providing opportunities for people to be active. This competition is a great way of highlighting and celebrating their work."
